When we first began exploring pieces for this recording project, our choices were inspired by "Garden of Adonis" by American composer Alan Hovhaness. The piece is based on the poem "The Faerie Queene" by Edmund Spenser. In his notes, Hovhaness describes his inspiration for the piece as "a garden of rebirth or reincarnation where souls appear as flowers." We were captivated by this idea, and set out to choose other pieces for this project that explore the intersection of the natural and spiritual worlds. We hope that you love the collection of music we have chosen as much as we do. We are especially excited to share with you the world premiere of "Ancient Sunlight" by Michael Mauldin, a piece we have commissioned for this project.
